If I were told a few years ago that someone would make a game about a cheerleader with a chainsaw where you would be fighting hordes of zombies in a hack in slash massacre, I would have laughed my head off. But here it is Lollipop Chainsaw is coming out later this year and there is nothing you can do to stop it, but do you want to?  Let me begin working through what I know about this game and see if it has the makings of a classic or a flop.

The premise of the story is about a cheerleader named Juliet Starling which so happens to be a zombie hunter. No surprise being a cheerleader that she has amazing acrobatic skills, is living through a zombie apocalypse and with her trusy boyfriends head goes to kill the zombie hordes invading her high school.  Of course there has to be someone controlling the zombies and his name is Swan, a classmate of Juliet’s and a powerfull sorcerer.  There are also going to be other bosses who are rock and roll zombies or something along those lines.

So now that I’ve told you the premise to the story what do I think?

Well I’ve played many games in my life time and I would have to say that this definitely takes the cake on originality.  I mean who comes up with this stuff? It’s like someone put a pot of soup together and started adding ingredients of things that people like.  Do they like cheerleaders? Yeah, guys love girls in skimpy clothes, add one of those.  Zombies are really popular why not use them? Oh yeah throw it in there. Nobody really likes it when there isn’t a real bad guy to the game, lets make a villain.  Throw us an evil sorcerer in there, Harry Potter is still fresh in everyones minds why not use some evil sorcerey. What are the kids listening to now a days?  Rock n Roll? Yeah lets add some of that in there. Now what is the coolest weapon we can think off?  What are you talking about your killing zombies!  Use a chainsaw!  God we are geniuses.  Now just pile that all together add a little blood and gore maybe some seasoning and voa la! Instant classic.

Now do I think it’s going to be on the top of leader boards? No.  Will it be a instant hit? No.  Cult classic? Maybe. I mean look at the Evil Dead movies.  They weren’t poplur at first but they have risen to be a cult Icon, Ash is everyone’s hero now.

To finish up, the game is fairly original and has a new flavor.  The main villain looks cool and the main character looks cool.  With it being a zombie game the story doesn’t have to be the best, you just need some fun ways to kill them and immediate satisfaction will take place.  You will get to hack and slash your way through hordes of undead and kill a few evil Sorcerers along the way.   Will I buy the game? Possibly I wouldn’t be a good reviewer if I didn’t give this a try now would I?  All I’m saying is that some of my favorite games were ones that no one really even heard about. Ever hear of Lunar Silver Star story complete?  Of course you haven’t.

Rob out….
