The musicians behind indie games like ‘Fez’, ‘Soulcaster’, ‘Aiko Island’ and ‘Hydorah’ have recently pooled their resources and launched Indie Loop Garden – a unique resource for indie devs in need of custom sound.
More details…
The website is in part a response to the plethora of royalty-free and stock music sites gaining increasing popularity among indie developers. By championing exceptional tailor-made sound and increasing their visibility as a group, the composers hope to encourage devs to seriously consider investing in an original soundtrack (OST) rather than using cheap or free music loops.
The success of the recent indie game music bundle is not only an advertisement for the power of music as a potential marketing tool, but also demonstrates that gamers really care about the music that goes into indie games.
The service consists of three main components
1. Artist showcase – biog, contact details, portfolio – all easily browsable by category. It is a small group with an emphasis on quality.
2 Resources – aimed mainly at new developers – contains handy information about music licensing options and other friendly advice. This will grow as the site develops and is open to submissions for improvement.
3. Blog – acts as a mouthpiece for the indie composers on the site to speak on themes relating to custom sound in indie games. It is a conversation starter aimed both at devs and other game composers.
“We are collective of indie game composers who relish the opportunity to provide an organic, homegrown alternative to the plethora of ready made mass produced rubbish lining the musical convenience stores of the web.” – Vince Webb (founder, composer – Superfly, Ninja Penguin Rampage)
