Details…
Tom Happ, a programmer on Petroglyph Games’ End of Nations team by day, is officially announcing his own independent project, Axiom Verge.
Axiom Verge is a retro-styled 2D example of the (unfortunately named, yet nevertheless, descriptive) “Metroidvania” genre, and is inspired by greats such as Blaster Master, Bionic Commando, Rygar, Contra, Cave Story, and, of course, Metroid. You play as Trace, a relatively normal guy who suffers a fatal-ish injury, after which he wakes up in a strange, unsettling new world that is both high-tech and incredibly ancient.
The Features:
- About 8 hours of play time (depending on how much you explore)
- Over 60 items and powerups hidden throughout the world
- Over 20 upgradeable weapons
- Classic 2D graphics
- Gripping sci-fi storyline
- Pulsing sci-fi soundtrack
Of course, in addition to the many classic gaming influences, there are a few innovations to be had as well, but these will be explained at a later time (i.e. when they’re ready to show 🙂
Tom will be submitting the current build of Axiom Verge to the 2012 Dream.Build.Play challenge on May 15th, but the finished game is expected to release sometime in 2013 for XBLIG and PC.
All of the music, art, and code is made by the author.
