Ok, so I’ve played multiple MMO Rpg style video games in my history, all the way back to Gemstone III which is a texted based MMO, that is currently still running under Gemstone IV. I’ve played alot of them, Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, Ultima Online, World Of Warcraft, Star Wars Galaxies, Everquest II, Warhammer Online, Star Wars Old Republic, Star Trek Online, and the list goes on and on. But never had I picked up EVE Online, I had heard rumors of how great it was and I had heard rumors on how bad and difficult it was. So I figured with the upcoming DUST 514 that I should give EVE a try and see what it has in store for me. Fortunately, the fellows at EVE Online were kind enough to allow me a press pass into the game and give it a try.
Boy was I in for an adventure of epic porportions. Immediately when I started the game I was lost, where do I go, how do I do this or that? My mind was blown by how long the tutorial was. There truly is so much to this game that they need a tutorial that lasts hours on end just to teach you how to do everything. Now, I don’t want to scare anyone but this game is what I like to call a “life on it’s own” kind of game. The economy is very well structured here, and if you were looking for a game in which you could get lost in the depth of, then you have found it right here at EVE.
There is everything, from Pirates to shipping frigates, to even corporations that fight over an online stock exchange that is built in the game and based on what everyone does. You can be a miner and mine different materials needed to make items, you can be the one to make the items. It doesn’t matter, if you put yourself into the flow of money you will get it no problem. Just be careful there are pirates about and they don’t care to kill you and take your haul.
Eve has allowed for a free roam, free action game that is very well built and although intimidating at times with its depth, can be a very enjoyable experience for the more involved gamer. I have also been assured that the game does it’s best to prevent farmers, so that the stock market isn’t fluctuated rediculously because of those people who like to sell their money and change everything around. Everyone has met a gold farmer in WOW and how they can change the market. That really hard to buy item just tripled in price over night because people are buying gold online just so they can own it, driving the prices up. We you won’t have to worry about that here.
My adventure conitinues on and although I don’t get to play it as often as I can, due to other obligations and games to review at the same time. I will continue to delve as deep as I can and give my insight as I travel through the depths of space to find my fortune. You never know, you might just see me there. http://www.eveonline.com
