Online Game Publisher GamesCampus have been busy designing the next big TCG. The game is called Carte: Global Online TCG. It is an online collectible trading card game alot like it’s famous predecessors like Magic the Gathering, Yugioh, and World of Warcraft TCG. GamesCampus was kind enough to let The Unpaid Gamers have a free sneak preview of the game.
Our preview was a pre-beta version, while the closed beta is being released today. So if you want to give it a try, head on down to http://carte.gamescampus.com to sign up for a beta key.
Game Mechanics
The game consists of 5 factions who are struggling for power and you get to be one of the characters in the game. You choose one of a selection of characters with different colors/factions and build your deck around that color. There are hundreds of cards to choose from and create your own crazy combos to conquer all who stand in your way.
From what we could tell, each color has it’s own special combos and tendencies to it. For example blue is all about the magic, you have spells that can hinder opponents, deal direct damage to creatures or characters, and have abilities that help them draw even more cards to their hand. While green tends to swarm the opponent, bombarding with creatures that spawn even more. They have cards that help restore life from nature or sacrifice mana to bring out more reinforcements. There is a color for everyone, the seasoned CCG player or the new comers. You can choose whichever you want.
I know what your asking, well how do I get more cards? With Carte’s innovative crafting system you can break down some of those cards you don’t want and build them into something more tailored to your needs. You also accumulate in-game currency as you play against opponents that can be used to buy booster packs and singles. You can also buy new characters with different abilities and health.
Singleplayer
There is a single player mode in this game, you get to fight against different characters who all have their own unique style and difficulty. You will gain currency to buy more cards when you win, but beware the hard ones are just like they say they are, HARD!
Multiplayer
In the Versus more, you play against another human opponent for points and currency. There is also planned tournaments to be held for prizes in the future. Raids are up to 3 on one battles against the cpu which you gain loot and currency for winning. I’ll tell you now though, these bosses are hard! We tried multiple times fighting even the easiest boss before we won just one battle. The game is all about the multiplayer experience. Boss Raids and the Versus mode provides nothing less of non stop action with other players from anywhere in the world.
Replay value
All in all the game has alot of potential, the art is very detailed and well done. The card database is large and gives you numerous options, while the interface is easy to learn. All strategy and CCG gamers will enjoy this game and we recommend you should give it a try.
Keep a look out in the future as The Unpaid Gamers will have an upcoming interview with GamesCampus!
